Odyssey of the Mind

The students of Claymont Elementary School embrace the Odyssey of the Mind program. Students enjoy the camaraderie of their teammates as they work together to solve challenging tasks.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative in education is closely linked to creative problem-solving. Students who participate in the Odyssey of the Mind creative problem-solving program learn to think critically and creatively. Teams collaborate to identify and analyze a problem, and then brainstorm innovative ways to solve it. As teachers, we value improved STEM programs to guide students who are capable of new solutions and higher level decision making. Beyond teaching science and math content, we look for opportunities to provide our students with experiences centered on design, innovation, engineering, and technology in order to increase creativity, inventiveness, ingenuity, and imagination capabilities. The Odyssey of the Mind experience fosters these characteristics.
